Starting a clothing business was always a dream for Robert Kedra, founder of Allen Paca. The challenge, however, was finding a way to stand out in an already crowded fashion industry. That moment of clarity came during his travels abroad, when he purchased an alpaca sweater. The quality, comfort, and natural sustainability of the fiber struck a chord—and he knew he had found the foundation for his brand.

Through research, Kedra discovered that the alpaca industry is deeply rooted in Peru, where local artisans and alpacas play a vital role in the country’s economy. Alpacas are shorn once a year, and the process is essential for their health and wellbeing—making alpaca fleece not only luxurious but also sustainable.

In 2019, Kedra launched Allen Paca, offering sweaters, hats, and socks crafted from undyed alpaca fiber. By keeping the fleece in its natural colors, Allen Paca avoids the harsh dyes and chemical processes that contribute to pollution in the textile industry. The result is a collection of eco-friendly pieces that are softer, more durable, and more sustainable than cashmere.

A Main Line Memory

Kedra also credits the Main Line community for helping him grow the brand. “I’m so grateful that the Main Line region has been so receptive to Allen Paca,” he shares. “This past winter, I was able to run my first pop-up shop at the Havertown Holiday Festival. The positive feedback I received from customers was a huge motivator. From that experience, I’ve been able to schedule more pop-up shops throughout Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs, which has been incredibly fulfilling and opened an entirely new avenue of business.”
