Some businesses are built on big ideas, others on big risks and some, like Philly Cookie Company, are built on a simple, timeless love for cookies.

For founder Loc Pham, the journey started in childhood with a passion for buttery shortbread cookies. Over time, that love turned into a recipe perfected through years of experimenting and sharing with friends and family. “Everyone always told me my shortbreads were special,” Loc Pham says. “I was tired of working for other people, so I took a huge risk and started this business.”

That leap of faith is paying off. Today, Philly Cookie Company produces delicious, melt-in-your-mouth shortbreads that you can find both online and in more than 20 locations across the Greater Philadelphia area and South Jersey.

Proudest Moment: From Kitchen to Distribution

Of all the milestones so far, one stands above the rest: landing Kensington Food Company as a distributor. “Seeing a whole pallet of my product was surreal,” Loc Pham recalls. “It was one of those moments where all the late nights and risks finally felt worth it.”

A Day in the Life of Philly Cookie Company

No two days look the same for this entrepreneur.

  • Some days are spent going business to business introducing the cookies to new customers.

  • Other days are dedicated to baking in the commercial kitchen, filling custom orders with care.

  • And then there are days spent behind a laptop, writing emails, meeting with partners, and planning future growth.

To keep building brand recognition, Philly Cookie Company also takes part in events and pop-ups, bringing cookies directly to the community—and often meeting new fans face-to-face.

Inspirations Along the Way

Behind every great entrepreneur are great mentors. For Loc Pham, a few stand out:

  • Fred Ortega, pastry chef at Rittenhouse Hotel, whose humor and talent left a lasting impression.

  • Dr. Philip Handel, a food science mentor who still supports the brand by engaging on social media.

  • Beth Silverstein Huxen, whose wisdom and encouragement helped spark the leap into entrepreneurship.

“These are the people who shaped my journey,” Loc Pham says. “I wouldn’t be here without them.”
